     About project

2007-06-25  Welcome!

The Association of Children’s and Youth Theaters ASSITEJ was established in Lithuania in February of 2001. In July of the same year it became a full rights member of the International Organization of Children’s and Youth Theatres ASSITEJ (Association International du Theatre puor l’Enfance et la Jeunesse, established on1965).

Currently this organization includes more than 80 countries from around the world. Thus far 17 theaters and institutions have become Lithuanian ASSITEJ members: State Youth’s Theatre, Vilnius Puppet Theatre “LELE”, “The Third Ring”, “The odd men theatre”, Panevezys theatre “Menas “, Kaunas Puppet theatre, Klaipeda Drama Theatre, Panevezys Puppet Wagon Theatre, Alytus municipality theater, “The Theatre of Elves”, actor’s troupe “Teatriukas”,
Stained glass puppet theatre „Rainbow“, Kaunas Drama Theatre, Panevezys J.Miltinis Drama theatre, Puppet Theatre “Piggy Ikar”, "The Theatre of Table", theatre laboratory “Open circle”.

The main goal of the Association is to enrich the lives of children by creating performances for the young audiences, encouraging professional theater actors, directors, and art managers to raise the level of their performances. The Association also seeks the greater acknowledgment of children’s rights to spiritual education with the help of art.

Members of Lithuanian ASSITEJ believe in the educational power of theater, thus we strive to be no mere place of leisure. We communicate with young audiences and set up a dialogue. This dialogue is intended to help children and youth handle the difficult problems of modern life. Great attention is paid to original, modern and national plays, as well as the development and training of young playwrights. We
are also seeking State help and support.

ASSITEJ of Lithuania seeks to attract the attention of representatives of the government, various politicians, and potential sponsors. We work to raise awareness and consideration of the younger generations, and we advocate that children’s and youth theater must become a priority of State cultural policy.

Lithuanian ASSITEJ organizes national and international professional theater festivals for children and youth, as well as celebrates International Children Theater day (20th of March) and International Children defense day (1st of June). We work hard to implement creative theater projects, workshops, theater laboratories, discussions, and other such meetings and events.
