The Association of Children’s and Youth Theaters ASSITEJ was established in Lithuania in February of 2001. In July of the same year it became a full rights member of the International Organization of Children’s and Youth Theatres ASSITEJ (Association International du Theatre puor l’Enfance et la Jeunesse, established on1965). Currently this organization includes more than 80 countries from around the world. Thus far 17 theaters and institutions have become Lithuanian ASSITEJ members. Lithuanian ASSITEJ organizes national and international professional theater festivals for children and youth, as well as celebrates International Children Theater day (20^th of March) and International Children Defense Day (1^st of June). We work hard to organize national (annually) and international NORDIC-BALTIC (every third year) theater festivals, seminars, workshops, theater laboratories, and participate in international professional children’s and youth theater festivals, and other events.
